I was the smallest kid in my class.

That was until my sophomore year in high-school, then I became the average American height. I was a late bloomer which in retrospect explains much. I'm now glad of the fact. It made me learn how to get along with everyone and have some empathy for the runts like myself.

I was born on the 13th so I never understood it's bad luck status. Especially when I would get gifts on that numbered day which sometimes fell on a Friday. Therefore my birthday sign is "skeptic". (I also share my birthday with the legendary Stevie Wonder which makes the number sacrosanct in my view.)

I grew up in Kansas, was in the Boy Scouts with a serial killer for a scoutmaster, went to war as a member of the U.S. Army, graduated from a ultra liberal New York art school, have 2 mutt dogs, own two loud motorcycles, and have a son that can dance better than yours. I'm complex and have almost too many viewpoints.

Why do all these anecdotes matter? Empathy, skepticism, and experience are all great to have when working with people. It also helps in figuring out how to solve problems in a non-boring way.
